HOW

IT WORKS

The Varroa destructor mite is the main source of bee colonies mortality in the world. Currently, in order to fight Varroa, beekepers mainly utilize chemicals. Chemicals are not healthy for the beekeeper nor for the consumer due to chemical residues in honey. Moreover the mite has grown resistance to some of the chemicals, significantly decreasing their effect.

It has been known for decades that the only weakness of the Varroa mite is its considerable sensitivity to increased temperature. If we expose the mite to the temperature of 43°C, the mite is killed.

The VARRTREAT (patent international application number WO/2018/215806) is equipped with numerous feautures like ventilators, multiple temperature sensors and a sophisticated algorithm enabling to control the temperature within the hive at 43°C. The heat does not harm the bees, brood, nor the honeycombs. Yet it kills the Varroa mites inside the hive.
